ABOUT MICHAEL
If you've made it this far, I really and truly appreciate it. My name is Michael McCarthy and I'm a cartoonist and a digital artist. I have been drawing my entire life and I will probably still be drawing when I draw my last breath. (No pun intended, but I must say that was a pretty damn clever accident.)
Born and raised in Southern California, I was a product of too many Saturday morning cartoons. It's what
I lived for. As long as I can remember, a cartoonist and/or an animator is what I wanted to be when I grew up. (Interestingly, I found out early on that as much as I wanted to be an animator, I just wasn't happy doing the required repetition it takes to do 2D animation. I grew antsy and bored and my mind would wander to other things.) I wanted to make fresh new art, different every time.
That was going to be the ticket!
I feel the same today, as I did in front of my living room television set all those years ago. I still paint and draw and create every day. I feel that technology in digital art has caught up to the way I think and draw now. I have found numerous ways to show my art, and how to brand it.
And that is what I hope this website will provide. A way to help artists grow and learn ways to efficiently display their work. I'm still infinitely curious about learning new programs and using them to enhance my work. And I hope I keep on drawing until the art gods let me draw my last breath.

Welcome to The Working Stiff
Or, as I like to call myself the Entrepreneurial Bohemian, is the culmination of my work and ideas over many years. In the past, I have been spinning myself around in circles trying different styles and setting up small business and online shops, but I’ve not been able to figure out where I should be directing my energies.
The frustration that I had started to affect my ability to bring together coherent ideas and designs. So as a side job, I started setting up websites and doing graphic design work for other people. This became a wonderful way to channel my creativity for other customers and give me a better understanding of what I wanted to do creatively.
But I was still struggling with all of the projects that I was trying to bring together. Then one day as I was going through my computer files to clean them up I realized that all of my work needs to be under one umbrella of creativity… enter The Working Stiff.
